Everybody Needs Good Neighbours

People say young people don’t care about politics, or social change.
One initiative is seeking to challenge that. In its second season, Battlefront brings together 14-21 year olds from all over the UK who want to make a change.
Our favourite campaign so far this year is the Meet Your Street campaign, fronted by Alex Loughlin, who’s featured in this weeks episode of Battlefront The Show. Alex is campaigning for people to ‘Meet Their Neighbours’. Even though it doesn’t seem ‘Political’ with a capital P, if you know what I mean, I think it is an important campaign that says a lot about the way we live now.

In a world where we become increasingly selective about who we associate with, through online communities and niche networks, perhaps we not at risk of losing the ability to empathise and relate to people different to us? Those that live close to us physically, that we may have nothing more in common with, than that we live in the same postcode? Cos everybody needs good neighbours, don’t you know…

Check out more of the campaigners here.

“We Dream The Same Dream” Exhibition

My good friend Nina Manandhar (co-founder of Hardcore is more than musicThe Cut Newspaper) is one of the most hardworking & talented females I know of, yes she is the business! Nina is actually one of the reasons why I decided to get into Film & Photography, she’s inspired much creativity not just with me but with many other young people as she is so dedicated to giving young people a voice in the media. Like I said, Nina is the business!

This Thursday  Nina holds a private viewing of her latest Photography exhibition “We Dream The Same Dream” at the Exposure Gallery (Details on the flyer)

Foot Patrol

IMG_5859
It’s the moment sneaker fans across London have been waiting for. After years of being in the dark Foot Patrol has finally made a come back at its home on Berwick street. The Cut went down to the opening speak to Alex & Sheebs (staff at Foot Patrol), takes some pics, as well as, do some needed shopping.

The first thing you notice when you walk into Foot Patrol is its distinctive appearance. Alex’s talks us through how the shop looks.

“Its something different, you don’t normally get a shed inside a shop, never seen that before. Quite a small space, nice place to chill out. Nice little seating area at the front.”

Now to the important part, what are the kicks in stock actually saying? What can we expect to see in Foot Patrol? Sheebs shares a few surprises she didn’t expect to see in the shop. “I think its great stuff, a lot of stuff some people would not have seen. Its good for collectors that missed out of stuff. There’s stuff I ain’t seen as well- like the Hawaii’s“.

In case you don’t know why there is such a fuss about Foot Patrol re-opening, Alex  AKA “The King of Hype” gives us a little insight into what Foot Patrol means to sneaker heads. “A lot of shops have gone missing.. this one has now come back alive. Another place for sneaker fans to go shopping. Lots of hype stuff (laughs).” There- you have it, there will be lots of “Hype” kicks.

Since we have reached the end of our time in Foot Patrol, we decided, we needed a women’s words to end this article and explain what Foot Patrol will bring in the future. Take it away Sheebs!

“ Foot Patrol can stand the test of time, this is the beginning, loads more collaborations to come. Everybody is watching us, so we going to be on point!
