Cut issue 5

Guess who’s back? Back again… The Cut’s back… tell a friend! Guess who’s back, guess who’s back, guess who’s back, guess who’s back… yada yada yada, you get it right?

Issue 5 aka ‘The Remix Issue’ will finally be ready for your consumption this coming Friday. We’ve worked long and hard to try and figure out whether originality still exists or if our modern day culture is  completely saturated with nostalgia-obsessed remixes and reinventions. What do you think?

Expect exclusive features on the likes of Jason Lewis, Bluey Robinson, Envy, Jason Derulo and our chart-topping cover star Tinie Tempah.

On top of that, we’ve got another mind-blowing fashion shoot, a preview of new British film Shank, an androgynous style secret histories special and young Londoner’s views on this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

Say something!!!

Pick up your free copy up from Size?, Rough Trade, Global Sports, Stateside, Old Blue Last, The Social, Rokit, Fopp, ICA and Michiko Koshino or any of The Cut contributors. Alternatively, you can download this issue from The Cut website. We hope you likey!

Lots of love,

The Cut XxX

Kalae AllDay

This lady is dope! Not to mention her super fly afro!!! I stumbled across her blog a few months back which linked me to her music. Hailing from NY Kalae is a rising MC/singer/performer and I dig her! Ever since I started listening to her tracks, its been hard to stop, I suggest you pay close attention to this young Lady.

Love child of Jimi Hendrix and Lauryn Hill, emcee/singer/songwriter and self proclaimed “vandal,” Kalae “All Day” is swiftly making an impression in the underground Hip Hop scene. At the ripe age of 21, the Harlem native has done over 30 shows at popular city venues, such as Sputnik, The Knitting Factory, Public Assembly, Highline Ballroom, SouthPaw and Ashford and Simpsons Sugar Bar, and has opened up for rappers Jean Grae and Talib Kweli (Idle Warship) all since the summer of 2008.’

The Cut rates: Shooting Star Poets

Strummerville – the Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music has just launched their latest project, “Shooting Star Poets”, a young collective from Liverpool. Their single tackles the issues of knife and gun crime and is the campaign track for a new education initiative in Liverpool from the charity, Support After Murder and Manslaughter. The visuals are lush on this…

The video has been directed by Orson Nava and is out on 5th April.

Gorillaz, Bashy & Kano!?

Ok what happens when you get Bashy and Kano and you put them with The Lebanese National Orchestra For Oriental Arabic Music? Well you get one of the hottest tracks in the Gorillaz album.

I was suprised when Bashy and Kano where in the album but hey it’s a good look so if you don’t have the new ‘Plastic Beach’ album from the Gorillaz your a pillock no other way to name yourself in this situation looooool I’m just playing but it’s a must buy for me right now ALBUM OF THE YEAR!
